Tony Oteng-Gyasi

Chairman

Tony Oteng-Gyasi was born on 15th February, 1955.

After spending nine years working with British Petroleum (BP) in Ghana in various executive marketing positions, he resigned in 1986 to set up his first company, a successful trading company, Tropical Products Ltd.

In 1997, he expanded into the cable manufacturing by incorporating, Tropical Cable and Conductor Ltd, with the active assistance of Empretec Ghana. In 2001, his Company Tropical Cable & Conductor Ltd was adjudged the fastest-growing Empretec Client Company. In 2018 he was adjudged the Manufacturing CEO of the Year by the Association of Ghana Industries. In 2007, he set up the only continuous casting and rolling factory to produce EC Grade Aluminum Rods in West Africa. The company, Western Rod & Wire Ltd. has become a source of raw material for aluminum conductor manufacturers in the region. Tony Oteng-Gyasi won the year 2000 Empretec Star Award for Entrepreneurial achievement.

The Republic of Ghana has conferred high National Honours on him twice as an Officer and a member of the Order of the Volta. In 2022, he has been awarded a Papal Knighthood (Order of St. Gregory), by Pope Francis.

Tony Oteng Gyasi is a visionary leader, with unparalleled drive and determination.

Married, with five children, he is a keen squash player and is interested in building a company, which will survive him.

Lalit Kumar Jha

General Manager

Lalit Kumar Jha holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics which he graduated with honors. Lalit Jha has over 30 years’ experience in the ferrous and non-ferrous metals trade business. Lalit is a self-motivated go getter, with a wide range of industry knowledge and contacts.

Lalit’s expertise includes international metal markets, financial markets, industrial marketing and mass production.

Lalit has high manufacturing management skills which emanates from running several factories from start ups to well established global organisations. Lalit has acute appreciation of valuation of all metals including aluminium, copper, zinc, nickel, tin and brass.
Lalit possesses broad experience and has worked in many countries across the metal industry value chain, including managing companies in Ghana, Benin, Togo, Malaysia, Nigeria, Senegal, Mauritania and Singapore.

Elijah Akuoko

Finance and Administrative Manager

Elijah Akuoko is an experienced Management Accountant and holds MBA in Finance at the University of Leicester, United Kingdom. He has worked with Sentuo Steel formerly Wahome Steel Limited as Management Accountant and Internal Audit Manager.

He joined Western Rod and Wire Limited in 2011 as Management Accountant.

Elijah is a trained ISO Auditor (ISO 9001 – Quality management system requirements standard) and participates in the system’s Internal Quality Auditing. He loves music and plays the Keyboard in Church.

John Atongo

Production Manager

John obtained Bsc (Material Engineering) and MSC (Mechanical Engineering) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi in 2012 and 2023 respectively. He joined WRWL in 2012 after school and had his National Service in WRWL where he was trained for Quality Assurance/Quality Control Department, Maintenance and Production.

Having worked under two Technical Managers whose combined total experience exceed forty years in the in the industry. John had taken up the challenge of running Aluminium Rod, Aluminium Circles and Aluminium Alloy Ingots till date.

He also takes up the challenge of maintaining our production equipment.

A key member of the team which saw the company achieve ISO 9001:2008 and 2015 certification.
John is a trained ISO Auditor (ISO 9001 Quality management system requirements standard) and participates in the system’s Internal Quality Auditing.

He is also a trained Energy Management System Auditor from Association of Ghana Industry Energy Service Centre. Married with three kids.

Sales and Marketing Manager – Aluminium Circles

Tony Oteng Gyasi JR holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Global Finance from Fordham University, Manhattan, New York.

Tony is a dynamic manager with subject matter expertise in international business, global financial markets, aluminium industrial marketing, export sales, and engineering management. He is a trained ISO Auditor (ISO 9001 – Quality management system requirements standard) and participates in the system’s Internal Quality Auditing.

Tony has been working with Western Rod and Wire Limited since 2020. He has a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management from the University of Hull in the UK. Tony manages all sales transactions related to aluminium circles, aluminium rod and aluminium ingot both locally and abroad.

Shirley Asafoah

Assistant Manager, Quality Assurance

Shirley graduated in 2012 with BSc. in Materials Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (former University of Science and Technology), Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
She joined Western Rod and Wire Limited (WRWL) in the year 2012 as a National Service Personnel and was responsible for performing comprehensive chemical, mechanical, and electrical testing on products to guarantee quality. Amongst other duties she is responsible, for the Company’s Quality Management System. She is a Professional QMS Lead Auditor and a member of IRCA. She oversees the overall performance, maintenance, and improvement of the established ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements standard.

Shirley is a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from MF Treinametos with expertise in process optimization and improvement methodologies as well as leadership capabilities to lead Lean Six Sigma projects effectively.

She tends to be reserved yet willful, with a rational outlook on life. She composes her actions carefully and carry them out with methodical purpose. She believes everyone has a specific purpose and that we don’t need to compete to be like others but compete with ourselves to be become the best version of yourself than the imitation of another person. Shirley seeks to use her Total Quality management and Lean Six Sigma expertise to ensure excellent and safe products for the protection of the environment and human life.

Rabiatu Yakubu, ProM

Assistant Manager, Sales and Marketing

Rabiatu holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Central University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing and Professional Marketer Certificate from Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana. She was awarded best graduating student during the Maiden CIMG’s graduation Ceremony in 2024.

Rabiatu joined WRWL in 2017 as a national service person. Her consistency, commitment and passion towards growth got her retained as a Sales and Marketing Officer and also saw her through the ranks of the corporate ladder to become the Assistant Sales and Marketing Manager.

She is a results-driven marketing professional with a track record of driving revenue growth through implementing strategies positively.

She is a trained ISO Auditor (ISO 9001 Quality management system requirements standard) and participates in the system’s Internal Quality Auditing.

Rabiatu is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana.
